As I did not have a fresh Windows XP installation anymore, I did a file search for MSVCR71.DLL and renamed all of the found files. Then I installed OOo. After this, when first starting OOo, I still got this error message. In fact the file is there in the installation files but apparently the installation program doesn't copy it to a suitable location. After re-renaming the MSVCR71.DLL in /WINDOWS/system32, OOo could be started normally.
