It's the image loading that is crashing open office. To recreate the problem: 1) Go to ANY website with an image. 2) Drag the mouse around the image and copy it. 3) Paste the image into open office writer. Wait for it to load. It probably won't crash. 4) Paste the image very quickly multiple times. Crash. It seems like when Writer tries to load images from a URL, it has a problem with loading the image in multiple instances. For example, when you paste something that has a list html element that uses images for the bullets, it tries to load all those bullets simultaneously and crashes. This is why it was crashing by selecting the entire page originally.
