OK, I think you are changing the issue slightly. Perhaps we are iterating
towards a better description. I don't think the problem (and I can see more of a
problem now) is to do with formulas, it's to do with the format of the cells in
column A, which seem to be inconsistent. The problem can be resolved in various
ways, but with some difficulty (eg changing the format of column A globally to
'all' doesn't work). I'm guessing that something in the XML file must be wrong,
but although I can see the XML via Winzip, working out what is wrong is beyond
my technical knowledge. However, I agree it would be better if Calc did not end
up in this muddle, however badly the original file was written. Suggest we
change the description to 'Calc fails to recognise and resolve inconsistent cell
formats'. With that description, I'd be happy to mark the issue as 'new'.
