I'm not so familiar with the different versions in the relevant Linux distros.
What does it mean to switch to glib-2.16+ for SuSe, Fedora/RHL, Debian, Ubuntu 
etc.?

Solaris may be a different thing, but IMHO that doesn't need to influence what
we want to have on Linux. 

Perhaps mhu or sb can tell us what "glib 2-16+" means for Solaris.
