2005 -------
Here is the latest in my saga. I downloaded and installed Cygwin.

I copied my public and private keys (previously generated by PuTTY and which had
worked to get me into OOo) to the directory where Cygwin looks for them. (I'm
not sure whether that was the right thing to do, but I couldn't think what else
to do, and the instructions assume I'm generating a new key, not using an old
one.)

I followed the instructions on the web pages mentioned earlier in this thread: I
started Cygwin and typed in:
ssh -2 -x -L 2401:localhost:2401 [EMAIL PROTECTED]

At the notice about the authenticity of host "openoffice.org" can't be
established, I typed "yes" as instructed and got the message of ooo being
permanently added to the list of known hosts. So far so good.

Next I got the message:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]'s password:

at which I entered the password for my key, and got the message "Permission
denied, please try again." After 3 tries, I was kicked out.

I noticed that the sequence was different from the instructions, which said I
would be asked for my passphrase *before* I got the "authenticity" message.

So... what should I do now? -- Jean
