Es: I see you're right. Modifying a style in the styles window does create a
universal change.

Here's where the problem was:

In the styles and formatting window:
1. I have one field highlighted *Heading 1*
2. I right click over *Body* and select *Modify*
3. I expected the styled editor window for *Body* to open. However, the style
editor window for *Heading 1* opens, because that style is highlighted.

If I click anywhere in the field, the selected (highlighted) item opens for
modification.

I would normally expect the item I click over to open. This made me think my
changes were not being applied. This is an unusual way for a user interface to
work and users may not understand it (I work in R&D and I didn't catch it, just
thought it was a bug)

Another note: Many of your users will be coming from Windows, which doesn't
automatically apply style changes to the whole document. I was looking for a
specific functionality that does this. I think your solution is better, but may
not be obvious. Maybe the button in the window where you modify a style should
say "Apply Changes" instead of "OK" to avoid confusion.

Regina: thanks for the explanation. I mean modifying template styles that from
the "Styles and Formatting" window.
