The end result aimed for is to convert my IMCU.com credit union (I do not
deal with banksters) checking account monthly statements from a downloaded .HTML
format into the .PDF format to gain its advantages (such as malware
security...and the ability to E-mail, since the .HTML format with its separate
folder associated with each URL cannot be E-mailed...and the ability to annotate
and append stmts into one archive file per year -- using the free version of
Foxit).
The only way I found to accomplish this is to keep my Office2000 on my
computer -- a setback because I was hoping to wean myself from all things
Microsoft.
Using WORD I can successfully convert the financial statements maintaining
correct column alignments. Then I can use WRITER 2.4.1 to successfully convert
the .DOC format into .ODT format and then finally produce the .PDF format end
result desired.
By the way, I tried downloading the financial statements in .HTML format
using IE6 and FF and Opera with no improvement in the results. I also found that
trying to directly convert the single-file .MHT format (available in IE6 and
Opera) using WRITER crashed my W2K.
