All files saved with Writer (3.1.1) under Opensuse 11.2 will be saved in the Word95 format, although the selection is Word 97/2000/XP (please see Test Dokument.pdf). All files saved with previous versions were saved in the correct format (Word Document 8 9) when the Word 97/2000/XP format was selected. The German characters will not be destroyed in the odt-format, but it is impossible to save files with umlauts in the Word 97/2000/XP format.
