Goal: have independent font styles for caption text and caption number;
specifically, caption text in italics, but caption number plain.

This is not feasible neither by formatting the templates nor by formatting the
individual caption.

1) Template formatting:
a) Paragraph templates: caption
Format, Font style: choose italics
        Numbering: numbering template: choose numbering 1

b) List templates: numbering 1. Options: character template: choose numbering 1.

c) Character templates: numbering symbol: font style: choose normal.
This setting is ignored, the style of the numbering symbol in the caption will
be italics nevertheless.

2) Leave the caption template in plain style and format the individual caption
text manually by applying italics to it (without marking, of course, the
numbering). Result: italics are applied to the number, too.

Note that this does not happen with bold. That is, I can apply bold style to the
number independently from the caption text.

Import an MS Word file which has a caption in italics with plain numbering.
Result: displayed correctly.
