See also Issue 108137 for an another example where the current handling of list
label formatting is incorrect and/or inconsistent.

If I apply italics to a paragraph though the paragraph style, then remove the
italic face from a word in the paragraph using the toolbar, I get the expected
result: the word is not italic. However, I can't accomplish the same using a
character style. It seems there is no way for a character style to override the
italic property provided by the paragraph style.

Is this limitation intended? Have I misunderstood something?
