The problem is not reproducible on the native builds of OOo. I opened the "Table
pasted...doc" and formatted as you described, but after saving and re-opening
everything looked as expected.
This is a bug in the ubuntu-provided build of OOo, so please report the bug
there or download and install newest OOo 3.2.1 from this website.
