------- Additional comments from niklasspi...@openoffice.org Mon Jan 24

Either it does not work as designed for me or I don't get the design.

Step 1) I want to display the year as four-digit-number in a cell, therefore I
select the cell, oben the Format Cell dialogue and format it as Date - Year,
four digits: YYYY (or that's what I assume, seeing that DD.MM.YYYY gives the
full date as in 01.01.2011. The dots are for the dots, DD is for the day as two
digit value, MM is for month in two digit value, YYYY should be for year as
four-digit-value).

Step 2) As I know I only want the year in the cell, I enter the year in four
digits. I expect Calc to respect my formatting the cell as year in four digits.
Entering a four-digit-value, I expect to be treated as year. In this example,
"2011" being the current year.

Step 3) When I'm done entering "2011" into the cell formatted as Date-YYYY, I
hit enter. I expect to see "2011" displayed in the cell but I get some funny
date over a hundred years ago. It's even guessing at Day and Month, even though
I explicitely formatted as year only.

I do not expect Calc to guess I mean year 2011 rather than 2011 mails of spam
when I leave the cell format in the generic number-general setting. I expect to
be a four-digit-value representing a valid gregorian year to be treated as
four-digit value representing a valid gregorian year if I ask for it, though.
This is especially true when using most notebook keyboards having the ./-,;:
keys far away from the numbers, making every keystroke while entering a date
something precious.
