Michael, I agree that switching the default would be a good thing.
Unfortunately, as probably expected by you ;-), we can not just change the
default to "compatibility=true", because of this older documents and because of
older user experience. The fix for this is not just changing the defaults, but
also to introduce some kind of property for storing the BASICs type
(compatible=yes,no). So, this is IMHO really a RFE. 

We are also currently thinking about these lines but have not yet determined a
time plan for this. I suggest to retarget it to OOo later and to reassign it to
Andreas. Andreas will then set the correct target, depending on the mentioned
time plan.
