SBA: Thank you very much for your considered and understandable response. I
will look at the insert special character thing. May I respectfully submit
however that:
1) This problem is probably of more importance outside the U.S., which
theoretically could hurt the uptake of OOo elsewhere. I think there would
probably be more people with this request if more business people and foreigners
were using OOo, but maybe someone with time to add this functionality will stop
by in the future.

2) Lots of people have trouble inputting special characters not shown on their
keyboards, but this is thought to be a "difficulty of computing". The best fix
is to copy a character from an online document out of your web browser perhaps.
In Japan there is a Windows tool called the foreign key editor, and you
basically have to search through a table of a zillion characters and generally
people wrongly find the symbol in a two-byte version specific to a given font,
and not use the unicode or one-byte version. This is sometimes a stumper in
companies that get documents from overseas, the most obvious one being the "mu"
(micron) greek character which is either absent, or present (as single byte
and/or double byte version), depending on the font. I found the same-named font
(Times I think) used by a Spanish company must have been a different version or
unicode version that was not found in Japan. Similarly Japanese companies often
use two-byte Japanese versions of characters (like the Yen mark, greek and roman
characters) which become junk (backslashes, wierd boxes, etc.) when read by a
western firm. Anyway, it is an opportunity to provide clarity to the world if
these problems all could be fixed with some kind of a life saving dialog. Not
high priority perhaps though.

Thank you very much.
