First, I would like to point out, that I haven't had this phenomena occur with
any other application, despite using many applications that use a file open
dialog that at the very least looks and behaves exactly like the standard
Windows file-open dialog. A couple of applications I can name off-hand that I am
positive do not have this problem are Altova XmlSpy, and Editplus.

Apparently other developers know how to work around whatever bug in these
dialogs your having trouble with.

Secondly, from a user interface design point of view...do you really think
turning on "Use OpenOffice.org dialogs" is a good way to solve the users
problem? "Use OpenOffice.org dialogs" seems to be off by default, and it gives
users no indication why they would want to select it.

Why IS there a choice? Is it purely there as a workaround for this bug? Are
there other advantages of using OpenOffice.org dialogs? Wouldn't it be much
better to just have one set of dialogs with all the advantages of each? From a
UI design perspective this is pretty bad.
