Computer: Dell PC
OS: Linux Suse 9.2
OpenOffice Version: OpenOffice 1.13
Processor: Pentium 4 CPU 1.80 GHz

I tested this in both on WinXp using Openoffice 2.0 Beta 2 and on Suse 9.2 using
an older version of OpenOffice (version 1.13). The results were the following:

When using WinXp, I created several powerpoint presentations in Microsoft
PowerPoint in the following sizes: 13.5 MB, 10.4 MB, 8.60 MB, 5.90 MB, and 2.54
MB. Each powerpoint presentation had text, jpeg pictures, and color in the
background. I had extreme difficulty in open both the 13.5 MB, 10.4 MB and even
the 8.60 MB files. They were extremely slow when importing the powerpoint
presentation, taking several minutes while slowing my computer process
significantly. When the files did open, Impress was slow to respond to my
commands when trying to navigate and switch views (sorter, outline, normal, and
slideshow). However, when viewing the slide show, there was no problem and the
program did not slow down or lag. With the 2.54 and the 5.90MB files, they acted
normal when loading and caused no errors or problems when editing or viewing
them.

When using Suse, I had almost similar responses that I had in WinXp. For the
13.5 MB, 10.4 MB, and the 8.60 MB file, they were slow to open taking the 10.4
MB file 7 mins and 36 seconds to load, the 10.4 MB 4 mins and 44 seconds, and
the 8.6 MB file 2 min and 56 seconds. Afterwards, the program was slow in
responding to my commands as it was in WinXp and the slideshow was able to be
display with no problems or lagging. However, all three files froze when trying
to close the program by selecting file in the toolbar and then close. The 5.9 MB
file took 1 min and 9 seconds to open the file, but I did not experience any
problems when navigating and editing the slides. The 5.9 MB file also had no
problem when closing the file. The 2.5 MB file acted as normal and almost
instantly open the powerpoint presentation and gave me no problems when editing,
viewing, and closing the slides.

Microsoft PowerPoint on the other hand, is capable of opening all the files with
in reasonable time and little difficulty in editing, navigating, or closing the
slides. If OpenOffice is going to compete as an alternative office software
suite, it is important that it should be able to behave similar to PowerPoint if
not better under certain conditions. The ability to respond quickly is an
important attribute of any program or service even when opening files as big as
5.9MB. For this reason, this bug should be considered important.
