Henry, I would be surprised if two different plants were being sold... 
it is such a distinctive plant ..... but it is true that  it may be "known" 
under two names....
the 'accepted' name of the plant  is  Vigna caracalla but it is also
 known under the synonym Phaseolus caracalla, so that may be where the 
confusion arises.
