Maggi,

That is exactly what I thought when a customer pointed that the flower we were
selling as /Vigna caracalla/ did not match our catalog description.

Until I saw the two plants next to each other. They are clearly similar but
also quite different.

Kyle pointed out the difference in the leaves, but the way the flowers are held
on the stem is also quite different as are the flowers themselves.

Where does one find a bean expert?

Henry, I would be surprised if two different plants were being
sold...
it is such a distinctive plant ..... but it is true that
it may be "known" under two names....
the 'accepted' name of the
plant  is  Vigna caracalla but it is also
known under the synonym Phaseolus caracalla, so that may
be where the confusion arises.

Hope that's some help,

Maggi
