ML8.1 has installed the ALSA 0.5.11 drivers on your hard disk (they are are
in the .rpm package which contains the binary of the kernel you are running
now ;) ). This just means no need to download and compile these, but they
aren't used until you load them or set up the system to load them.
As root, try:
modprobe snd-card-intel8x0
modprobe snd-pcm-oss
modprobe snd-mixer-oss
