Please, check the CVS sources and do:
cd alsa-lib; ./cvscompile; make install
cd ../alsa-utils; ./cvscompile
It should work, or simply copy alsa-lib/utils/alsa.m4 file to
/usr/share/aclocal. And try to cvscompile the alsa-utils only.
