I downloaded the utils directory from the website, but when I run
./configure, I get configure: error: No linkable libasound was found.

When I run cat /proc/asound/sndstat I get

Installed drivers:
Type 10: ALSA emulation

Card config:
ESS Maestro3 PCI at 0xdc00, irq5
Audio devices: NOT ENABLED IN CONFIG
Synth devices: NOT ENABLED IN CONFIG
Midi devices: NOT ENABLED IN CONFIG
times:
7: system timer
Mixers: NOT ENABLED IN CONFIG

What is libasound and where do you get it?

What config file is it not enabled in? I check /etc/modules.conf and it is
according to instructions on website.

Make sure you've got the same version drivers and utils installed,
if you've updated the driver check you've re-built the utils and if
you think you've updated everything make sure the new driver is
actually being loaded (cat /proc/asound/sndstat)
