no, you dont need to recompile the kernel, you just need the sources kernels if you want install alsa-drive , you can find the package in 2nd cd of RedHat in development/system.
Put 2nd cd in your cdrom, and if you have kde run utilitis/autorun, normally goes directely to gnome-rmp and press install to view what packages to you have to install, (you have to wait a little bit

Greetings; my first e-mail to the group.

OK;   here is the problem.

I have RH 7.2 and neither the installation nor ‘sndconfig’ detected my Soundblaster AUDIGY.  What do I have to do to enable only its basic functions; i.e., front and rear sound???

 

If I need to modify the kernel, please advise with lots of info.
