Hi I just bought a Gigabyte GA-7VKML motherboard, which has an onboard soundcard that appears to be a via233. The output of lspci for the soundcard is:
00:11.5 Multimedia audio controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. AC97 Audio Controller (rev 40) The snd-via8233 module loads properly, I ran the snddevices script and the /dev entries appear to be correct. The following modules are loaded: -(root@dude)-(~)- lsmod | grep snd snd-mixer-oss 9024 0 (autoclean) snd-pcm-oss 38148 0 (autoclean) snd-via8233 5188 0 snd-pcm 50272 0 [snd-pcm-oss snd-via8233] snd-timer 9792 0 [snd-pcm] snd-ac97-codec 23428 0 [snd-via8233] snd 27112 0 [snd-mixer-oss snd-pcm-oss snd-via8233 snd-pcm snd-timer snd-ac97-codec] soundcore 4452 3 [snd] The problem is that nothing seems to want to play through the soundcard. I've tried xmms and mpg123, but neither works, they look like they're about to start playing, but never do. The mixer controls are unmuted, but the players never seem to even get that far. There are no errors in syslog that I can see either. I'm running Rh7.1 on the machine and installed the ALSA 0.9.0rc1 tarballs (all of them) from alsa-project.org this morning. Does anyone have any suggestions?
