I think this is the likely problem. The old 0.5-series drivers for the
ICE1712-based cards don't work properly. You need to upgrade to the
0.9-series which (a) work and (b) are supported.

It is also possible that arts is trying to set an unallowed hardware
setting (very likely 16-bits, which is supported only in software on
this card).
