I just went from redhat 7.1 to 8.0, and was going to install the 0.5.10b drivers (because before the later drivers always played too fast), but neither they nor any of the 0.5* would compile (thought the kernel was version 0.0.0). So I got 0.9.0rc3, and it compiled no problem. I kept the old modules.conf (which is:
alias eth0 3c59x alias parport_lowlevel parport_pc alias char-major-116 snd alias char-major-14 soundcore alias snd-card-0 snd-intel8x0 alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0 alias usb-controller usb-uhci alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss ), and I could modprobe stuff just fine. However, when I tried to use alsamixer, I got this error: ALSA lib conf.c:1564:(snd_config_load1) _toplevel_:6:8:Unexpected char ALSA lib conf.c:2820:(snd_config_hook_load) /etc/asound.conf may be old or corrupted: consider to remove or fix it ALSA lib conf.c:2666:(snd_config_hooks_call) function snd_config_hook_load returned error: Unknown error ALSA lib conf.c:3066:(snd_config_update_r) hooks failed, removing configuration alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: Unknown error And no dice, obviously. I tried removing all the modules and doing it again with insmod instead of modprobe and got a bunch of unresolved symbols. Then I tried using the freshrpms alsa rpms via apt, and the same problems occurred, both with alsamixer and insmod. Any clues? The kernel is 2.4.18-14 plus whatever patches redhat applies. -- BTR A cucumber should be well sliced, and dressed with pepper and vinegar, and then thrown out, as good for nothing. -- Samuel Johnson ------------------------------------------------------- This sf.net email is sponsored by:ThinkGeek Welcome to geek heaven. http://thinkgeek.com/sf _______________________________________________ Alsa-user mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/alsa-user
