I have compiled both the 2.4.20 SMP kernel and the driver with
GCC 2.95.3 using:
./configure --with-cards=cmipci --with-sequencer=no
make;make install
./snddevices
the relevant portions of "lspci -v" gives:
02:04.0 Multimedia audio controller: C-Media Electronics Inc CM8738
(rev 10)
Subsystem: Asustek Computer, Inc.: Unknown device 8077
Flags: bus master, stepping, medium devsel, latency 32
I/O ports at c800 [size=256]
Capabilities: [c0] Power Management version 2
however, "modprobe snd-cmipci" fails with:
/lib/modules/2.4.20/kernel/sound/pci/snd-cmipci.o: init_module:
No such device
The default 2.4.20 kernel cmpci.o module does load and unload, but doesn't
seem to provide a working /dev/dsp device. The soundcard works fine under
Windows 2000, so I know it isn't broken hardware. (and yes, I made sure
to rmmod the cmpci.o module before trying the snd-cmipci driver).
