I'm trying to get sound work with AC '97 (AD1981A) on Intel D845ept2
motherboard. I get to the point where gnome mixer starts fine and shows
"Analog Devices AD1981A" on the status line, but no sound actually comes
out when I try to play a gnome .wav for a .mp3 for xmms (with ALSA
plugin selected).
I'm using ALSA 0.9.0rc6 and used intel8x0 and instruction for Intel
440MX simply because I had no idea what the right settings for
AC'97/AD1981A would be, so my ALSA related module options are:
# ALSA portion
alias char-major-116 snd
alias snd-card-0 snd-intel8x0
# module options should go here
# OSS/Free portion
alias char-major-14 soundcore
alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0
# card #1
alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss
alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss
alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss
lspci lists this for the audio chip:

What should I do?
