Hithere,

I've been having a problem with xmms in kde (I run the demudi version
of alsa 0.9, under debian woody with the demudi low-latency kernel).
xmms stars up fine, but when I try to play an mp3 file (the only kind
of sound file I really have on my computer now, so I can't be entirely
sure if the problem extends to other formats), the process stalls and
I have to kill it. Afterwards, no other program can use the sound
devices, and I have to force-restart alsa (/etcinit.d/alsa
force-restart). This does not happen with alsaplayer, nor does it
occur when I run xmms in other window mangers, like afterstep. I'm
assuming the problem has something to do with the kde sound server,
arts. DOes anyone know a way to fix the problem? Maybe I should say,
too, that I'm running kde 2 (not sure exactly what version).

Ify ou know places I should look for error output, that would help as
well -- xmms doesn't write any errors to the terminal screen, so I'm
not sure what's going on.

thanks!
matt
