event sounds don't work which is especially annoying since i'm using GNOME. I have them enabled in the control center. Also, i could not hear sound if i type : "play xxx.wav" or use the XMMS player. I know sound is working because if i switch to KDE and set the KDE sound server to alsa i can enable it and so hear music in various formats : mp3, wav, etc. On the other hand, in GNOME sound only works through ALSA applications such "aplay" (aplay xxx.wav). It seems to me that i have trouble with the OSS part of GNOME, however i really don't know how to fix that problem, specially the procedure to change the sound input/output from OSS to ALSA.
Furthermore, i noticed that the symlink /dev/dsp points to /dev/sound/dsp instead of /dev/snd/... and /dev/mixer is linked to /dev/sound/mixer. Is that's right ? I'm not sure...
My "lsmod" output is the following :

Anyone had this problem before or know where i can find some answers ?
I'm using RedHat 9.0, kernel 2.4.20-8 and ALSA 0.9.3a. The soundcard is neomagic 256AV *NMA2*, here i should say that snd-nm256 is not suitable for my configuration ( i have an old IBM thinkpad 390 laptop), so i used the more general snd-opl3sa2 :-)
