Folks,

I submitted this to the gentoo-user ml several weeks ago and received no
response. Please take a look and let me know what I'm missing. For
those not familiar with Gentoo, it uses devfs, which I suspect may be
part of the problem.

Has anyone made S/PDIF work on Gentoo v1.4? I've looked at alsa's
website, googled, mythtv.org, and gentoo.org. Among other wanderings.
Nothing clicks.

Apparently I should have /dev/snd/pcmC0D2p listed. It's not, although
alsa works fine for analog (/dev/snd/pcmC0D{0,1}p). Does anyone know
what parameter I would pass to which module to make it work? I've
modinfo'd most of the snd modules, nothing looks right (or works).
Perhaps it's a modules.conf alias? I tried OSS emulation (for
/dev/sound/adsp), no go.

Here's my HW setup:

MB: GA-7VAX
Cable: RC-style digital to input of stereo
Add-on: S/PDIF out (fiber/copper)

btw - ALSA docs suggest it should work, but assume /dev/snd/pcmC0D2p is
present.

[End original message]

TIA,

Cooper.
