I'm using Alsa for my IBM T30 laptop's Intel 810 sound card (the intel8x0 driver), and I can't seem to play more than one sound at once. My friend with an Audigy and Alsa can, and on this same laptop Windows XP can.
Is this normal? Is it a hardware thing or a problem with the driver? If
both hw and sw: some cards have multiple audio channels (audigy) so alsa uses those, for the cards that do not support it in hw the solution is one of the sound servers (IMO that's not really a solution since not all the programs support sound servers) or dmix (alsa software mix, never used it so not sure how and how well it works, see http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/doc-php/asoundrc.php3#softmix).
