Sorry Jason, but when I emerge gentoo-dev-sources and then cat /proc/asound/version I get an answer of 1.0.0rc2, not 0.9.7. Wonder why the difference? What kernel source did you emerge? Maybe one of the other kernels doesn't use an updated Alsa.
