Hi, guys, I tried yesterday eve to switch my working 2 channels sound system to 4 channels as my hardware is supposed to do. I have a KT600 motherboard including a via8237 southbridge and an alc655 ac97. >From the alsa 0.98 original driver included in my distro, I upgraded recently to 1.0.2c (BTW, both works with 2 channels). I tried to write an asound.conf file ( after reading all the documentation available on that subject, I can still say that it 's not crystal clear for my level of knowledge). I tried also to send sound sample with simple commands like : aplay -Dsurround40 xxxx.wav aplay -Drear xxxx.wav Anyway, I've got sound coming only from my front speakers, rears stayed quiet all the time. Finally, I found the speaker-test program and gave it a trial. The program sent sound samples to the speakers, but here also, I was able to hear sound coming only fronm the front speakers. Does this program need a special setting in order to work? If not, what conclusion can I make? Driver not able to support 4 channels with this hardware? Anyway, any help, clues on previous experience more then welcome!!! Thanks and regards Laurent -- NeoMail - Webmail that doesn't suck... as much. http://neomail.sourceforge.net
