It's probably not normal. If I remove the following lines from
/etc/asoundrc.conf:

pcm.!iec958 {
        type hw
        card 0
        device 2        
}


I can see that iecset -x output changes when I run:

ac3dec -C -Diec958:AES0=0x6,AES1=0x82,AES2=0x0,AES3=0x2 dolby.ac3 

But I still get no sound. I guess that I must find another way to
specify that iec958 is on device 2.
