Try a new test. It will not give any sound, but might get the receiver
to think there is AC3 present.

./speaker-test -Diec958:AES0=0x6,AES1=0x82,AES2=0x0,AES3=0x2 -c2

I get a different set of parameter from 'iecset -x' while playing speaker-test. Is that normal ?

$ iecset -x
AES0=0x02,AES1=0x00,AES2=0x00,AES3=0x02

This time I'll reply to myself ;-)

It's probably not normal. If I remove the following lines from
/etc/asoundrc.conf:

pcm.!iec958 {
type hw
card 0
device 2 }

I can see that iecset -x output changes when I run:

ac3dec -C -Diec958:AES0=0x6,AES1=0x82,AES2=0x0,AES3=0x2 dolby.ac3

But I still get no sound. I guess that I must find another way to
specify that iec958 is on device 2.

Can people please rename the /etc/asoundrc.conf and any ~/.asoundrc files for the purposes of testing AC3.

James
