Hi all,
I have just bought a new VIA Epia SN10000EG board which has a "VIA High
Definition Audio Controller":
80:01.0 Audio device: VIA Technologies, Inc. VIA High Definition Audio
Controller
Subsystem: VIA Technologies, Inc. VIA High Definition Audio Controller
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 23
Memory at febfc000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16K]
Capabilities: [50] Power Management version 2
Capabilities: [60] Message Signalled Interrupts: Mask- 64bit- Queue=0/0
Enable-
Capabilities: [70] Express Unknown type IRQ 0
I'm using Debian GNU/Linux unstable on the box with the latest 2.6.23
kernel. The following ALSA modules are automatically loaded when ALSA
starts up (or when I do "modprobe snd_hda_intel" by hand):
snd_hda_intel 271388 0
snd_pcm_oss 38048 0
snd_pcm 70088 2 snd_hda_intel,snd_pcm_oss
snd_mixer_oss 14016 1 snd_pcm_oss
snd_seq_dummy 2628 0
snd_seq_oss 28992 0
snd_seq_midi 5920 0
snd_rawmidi 19232 1 snd_seq_midi
snd_seq_midi_event 6208 2 snd_seq_oss,snd_seq_midi
snd_seq 45840 6
snd_seq_dummy,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq_midi,snd_seq_midi_event
snd_timer 19268 2 snd_pcm,snd_seq
snd_seq_device 6348 5
snd_seq_dummy,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq_midi,snd_rawmidi,snd_seq
snd 44068 9
snd_hda_intel,snd_pcm_oss,snd_pcm,snd_mixer_oss,snd_seq_oss,snd_rawmidi,snd_seq,snd_timer,snd_seq_device
soundcore 6112 1 snd
snd_page_alloc 7560 2 snd_hda_intel,snd_pcm
Sound "kind of" works. That is, as long as I keep both channels of
"Line" and the left channel of "Mic" muted, then I can listen to sound
and the sound indeed does sound good. However as soon as I unmute
either channel of "Line" or the left channel of "Mic", I get a high
pitched noise on the Line Out jacket.
I already tried putting things like module=3stack and position_fix=1 in
the /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base config file, but it didn't help (although
I didn't follow a strategy but was merely trying out the options).
Any ideas how to get rid of that high pitched noise?
And a second question: I do not get a system beep although I have
CONFIG_INPUT_PCSPKR=y in the kernel config. What could be wrong here?
BTW: If you need more information, just ask and I'll post whatever
information is necessary.
Greetings,
Stefan
