My /etc/asound.conf looks like this:
pcm.!default {
type asym
playback.pcm {
type plug
slave.pcm "hw:1,3"
}
}
The value hw:1,3 comes from here:

card 0: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 0: HDA Generic [HDA Generic]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 1: NVidia_1 [HDA NVidia], device 3: NVIDIA HDMI [NVIDIA HDMI]
Subdevices: 0/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
You can see, "card 1" and "device 3".
