ISF IX Junior Women's World Championship 
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 
December 7th, 2011 

 Team Canada ready to compete at ISF IX Junior Women's World Softball 
Championship 

 (Cape Town, South Africa) The Canadian Junior Women's National Team will be 
looking for its best-ever performance at the ISF IX Junior Women's World 
Championship, which begins tonight in Cape Town, South Africa and will run 
until December 17th. Canada's previous best result was a fourth-place finish at 
the inaugural event in Edmonton in 1983. 

 The United States and Japan have dominated the last five Junior Women's World 
Championships, meeting each other in the gold medal game at each of those 
events with Japan winning three gold medals and the United States winning two. 

 Canada has improved steadily over the past three World Championships, 
finishing 7th at the 1999 event in China, 6th in 2003 in Taiwan and 5th in 2007 
in the Netherlands. After three years of preparations, this year's team is 
expected to be in the thick of the podium hunt. 

 The athletes who will represent Canada at the ISF IX Junior Women's World 
Championship in Cape Town, South Africa are:

 Sixteen (16) teams will participate at the event, which will be split into two 
pools for round-robin play. Each team will play seven games against the other 
teams in their pool, as the top four teams from each pool will advance to the 
playoff round. The pool breakdown (determined by the 2007 World Championship 
standings) will be:
