ISF IX Junior Men's World Championship - Game 2
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
November 3, 2012

Canada Bounces Back with Win over Czech Republic at ISF Junior Men's World
Championship

(Parana, Argentina) The Canadian Junior Men`s National Team bounced back from
a 1-0 loss to Argentina yesterday as the bats exploded for 10 runs and 12 hits
to defeat the Czech Republic 10-1 in six innings. Carson Soucy (Irma, AB) had a
double, a triple and three runs batted in, while Michael Lamontagne
(St-Charles-de-Bellechasse, QC) added a single, a double and two RBIs. Steven
Normand (Calgary, AB) earned the complete game win in the pitcher's circle.

Team Canada did not waste any time getting into the hit column, as Lamontagne
hit a one out single followed by a double by Adam Stuck (Owen Sound, ON) to put
runners on second and third, but the two next batters were retired. However,
Canada scored its first runs of the tournament in the top of the second by
exploding for six runs. Brett Larson (Irma, AB) and Cody Anthony (Shubenacadie,
NS) started the inning with a pair of singles followed by an RBI single by Brad
Peck (Surrey, BC) to open the scoring. After the runners were sacrificed to
second and third, Cole Bolton (Flinton, ON) hit a double to score Anthony from
third. Lamontagne then hit a two-run double, and later scored on a double by
Michael Lagace-Roote (New Hamburg, ON), which was followed by yet another RBI
double by Soucy to give Canada a 6-0 lead.

Canadian pitcher Steven Normand cruised until the bottom of the third when he
allowed two hits with two outs, but was able to induce a line out to end the
threat. In the fourth, the red and white put pressure on the Czech defence, as
Bolton and Lamontagne both reached on errors to start the inning, and the
seventh run on yet another error. The Czech Republic was able to put two
runners on base in the bottom of the inning on a walk and a hit by pitch with
both of them advancing on a wild pitch, but Normand was able to induce a
groundout to end the inning.

In the bottom of the fifth, Normand was able to strike out the two first
batters but the next batter tripled and scored on an error on the following
play for the Czech Republic's first run. Canada added three more runs to its
lead in the top of the sixth. Stuck and Lagace-Roote each hit one-out singles
before Soucy drove them in with a two-run triple, before scoring on a sacrifice
fly by Larson, giving Canada a 10-1 lead. The Czechs went down in order in the
bottom of the inning to end the game.

Normand earned the complete game win for Canada, allowing one run on three
hits and a walk with six strikeouts in six innings pitched. Four Canadian
batters registered two hits, including Lamontagne, Lagace-Roote, Soucy and
Stuck, while Larson, Peck, Bolton and Anthony each added one to complete the
red and white's 12 hit attack.
