However, Canada scored its first runs of the tournament in the top of the second by exploding for six runs. Canadian pitcher Steven Normand cruised until the bottom of the third when he allowed two hits with two outs, but was able to induce a line out to end the threat. In the fourth, the red and white put pressure on the Czech defence, as Bolton and Lamontagne both reached on errors to start the inning, and the seventh run on yet another error. The Czech Republic was able to put two runners on base in the bottom of the inning on a walk and a hit by pitch with both of them advancing on a wild pitch, but Normand was able to induce a groundout to end the inning. In the bottom of the fifth, Normand was able to strike out the two first batters but the next batter tripled and scored on an error on the following play for the Czech Republic's first run. Canada added three more runs to its lead in the top of the sixth. Stuck and Lagace-Roote each hit one-out singles before Soucy drove them in with a two-run triple, before scoring on a sacrifice fly by Larson, giving Canada a 10-1 lead.
