Alternatively, you might want to create a snapshot for the purpose and
back up (only) that.  (A NetApp "snapshot" is read-only for the lifetime
of the snapshot, so things won't be changing out from under it.)  Then
you can delete the snapsht when you're done, or queue it for deletion,
depending on local policies.

Also, to address the concern that someone else had, it is possible to
provide a NetApp Filer with an additional NIC; if you do the backups via
that (dedicated) NIC, it's likely to significantly reduce the impact
of the backups on your "regular" net(s), quite possibly to the point
that no one will notice when the backups are being done.  :-}
