As Paul mentioned, this means you've "overloaded" the tape capacity.
However, I don't think you don't have to comment entries in and out of
the disklist.  The longer Amanda goes without getting a full dump of
them, the more important they will be and other dumps will be demoted
to incrementals, leaving more tape space to pick off a few more of the
ones that haven't been done yet.  Eventually Amanda should get them all
done and then start trying to balance things.

Is it a fast client system or a fast server system?

Comp-user has this line:

  compress client fast

which does compression on the client in "fast" (normal) mode.

Comp-root is just like comp-user w.r.t. compression.

Comp-high has this:

  compress client best

which also does the work on the client but requests the compression
program do the best job at the expense of extra CPU.

If you want the work done on the server, you'll need to create your
own dumptype and do something like:

  compress server best
