My guess would be some shared library has vanished that amandad is linked
against and so it won't run any more.  I have that problem here in the
reverse direction, trying to run a 2.7 built amandad on some systems
that are still 2.6.  You may just need to rebuild/reinstall it on 2.8.

That's a waste of time.  Amanda does not use rsh.

Rather than boring you with the oft-repeated answer to this, take a
look at the FAQ at www.amanda.org.  In particular, the "run amandad by
hand as the Amanda user" step.  If none of those ideas get you anywhere,
ask again and we'll pull out the bigger hammers :-).

Until you get amcheck happy, not much else (related to this client)
