Simple question on levels and bumping

Hi all

Thanks to previous help from this list, my first week with amanda has passed smoothly. 
I'm still a little bemused however over what
levels are all about. I understand level 0 is a full backup but what happens in a 
level 1 or 2 backup. Is it 'things that have
changed' plus a bit?
