Obscure possibility: tape drive block size is set to something fixed and larger than 32KB. Reason I suggest that is "dd", which reads off the label, has a wierd message if its input buffer is too small for the a tape block and overflows. Not certain if it is this message or someother similarly wierd message. -- Jon H.
