I saw that in a comment on the blog Witt and Wisdom and just had to steal it :-) so please no offense.
Joking aside, you could "rpm -ivh" the amanda src.rpm, and then hack the SPECS/amanda.spec file (usually in /usr/src/redhat or /usr/src/RPM) to change the ./configure command, then you would be able to "rpm -bb SPECS/amanda.spec" to compile a new binary RPM with the --portrange option that you wanted.
