Is memory consumed by amavisd child processes, or by something else? Amavisd processes have a limited lifetime, controlled by $max_requests. Its default value 20 is just fine. Even if there were a memory leak somewhere, the overall system memory usage should not be increasing, thanks to this safeguard.
