So, if you never used Centos7 before and are in a hurry, go to Centos6.
If you already know Centos7, go there.

systemd has not been a PITA for me. Basic services work out of the box. Just a few new commands to learn. Unless the OP is using VMs, and only that to some extent do you really have to deal with it.

SELinux can be a bigger challenge to learn what the magic incantation is for a specific usage.
