First of all, a complaining developer is no reason to hack something into the
codebase. I think the current solution is not a good approach because it's not
implemented as a separate component and our architecture identifies caching as
something that needs to be implemented separately.
So I would at least move the whole caching algorithm into a separate bundle and
use a service aspect to transparently make it intercept calls to the original
service. I agree that we can (and must) come up with a better algorithm later.
