Returning to the question of 'should we use caching':
The OpenSocial wiki has an article on this, and they seem to gravitate towards
relying on server cache [1]. I agree with Marcel that we shouldn't try to
reimplement caching that is better done at another level, and it seems unlikely
that Amdatu won't be running behind an Apache or another web server or load
balancer in a production environment.
So, summing up, I'd say we should not build our own caching.
