Some issues, like 171, have been fixed in later Cassandra versions but are not yet available in the 'old' 0.8 branch we depend on (and probably will never be). Hence we applied the patch to the latest 0.8 version. Same for 181; we depend on the old Hector lib, the patched class doesn't even exist anymore in the trunk version. Other issues, like https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/THRIFT-1457, are registered at Apache but not yet resolved.
